Raising Awareness and Information

Raising community awareness of elder abuse is an important strategy in the prevention and early detection of abuse.  This website contains resources that can be used to inform individuals and communities about forms of abuse and possible responses. 

Some situations of potential abuse occur because of carer stress, poor understanding of the needs of older people and misunderstanding about the use of instruments such as Enduring Powers of Attorney.  Education and support for carers and others responsible for supporting the older person can alleviate potentially abusive situations. Encouraging people to plan ahead may also prevent future exploitation and abuse.
