Common Questions
I'm worried about getting really sick and losing control. What can I do?
Advance Care Planning is a way of making sure that your doctors, health professionals, family and friends understand your wishes about future medical care. This is particularly important if you know that you have an illness or health condition which may cause you to lose the capacity to speak for yourself.
As part of Advance Care Planning, you can talk to your doctors, other health professionals, family and friends about your wishes, values and what type of medical care you would like to have. You can also write an Advance Care Directive, stating the types of treatment you would accept and refuse in a life-threatening situation. This means that your wishes will be respected even if you can’t speak for yourself.
